Terenure

Our client purchased this 1950′s semi- detached dwelling, which was in very poor condition (no insulation, single-glazed windows, and original kitchen & bathroom): it was cold, dark and felt damp, even during summer months. Our brief was to open up the house to the west-facing rear garden, refurbish generally throughout, and to advise on how to improve the comfort levels within the existing structure.

The house was entirely gutted and upgraded to provide high levels of insulation, renewable heating systems, mechanical ventilation etc., bringing the BER rating from ‘G’ to ‘A3′.

Spatially, we removed the existing stair and a small box-bedroom at first floor, which allowed for a double-height hallway, creating a sense of space and light that was previously lacking. Downstairs, the rear wall of the house was removed, and a generous living/dining/kitchen extension added: the frame of this extension is constructed in glu-laminated timber and left exposed, which gives a warmth to the internal space.
