Monkstown

This extension is to the rear of fine mid-19th century dwelling, a protected structure, located close to Monkstown Crescent. The house had been little altered over the years, with formal rooms at garden level having no direct access to the sunny rear garden. The kitchen was very small and inadequate for modern living.

Our client, a keen artist, required a new kitchen extension that would engage with the garden: it is deliberately a very simple form, designed so as not to compete with, and to have minimal impact on, the existing house. Maximum advantage is taken of the southerly aspect and the new sitting area enjoys a close interaction with the landscaped garden. The proposed materials [lead-sheet roof, high-quality render and glazing system], are chosen for their simplicity and durability.
